Sarasota-Bradenton Town Hall Meeting

Advance notice is a beautiful thing, isn’t it? I just got word (via the official e-mail list from his office) that Congressman Vern Buchanan has a Town Hall Meeting planned in Manatee County for tomorrow afternoon. As promised, I’m delivering the details to you here:

When: Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 4PM

Where: Braden River High School, 6545 SR 70 East, Bradenton, FL 34203

Braden River High is very close to the I-75 / SR 70 interchange. Take I-75 to Exit 217 (SR 70), then head West to Caruso Road. The school is on the right (North) side of SR 70, but if I’m not mistaken you need to turn North on Caruso to get to the entrance.

Here’s your map:

For the record, here’s the text of the official invite:

I would like to invite you to a Town Hall meeting on health care, jobs, and the economy tomorrow, Thursday, in Southeast Manatee County.  As Congress considers health care reform legislation, it also should work to grow the economy and create more jobs.  I want to know what you think Congress should be doing.

And also for the record, the language of this invite makes me nervous. Sound off in the comments below!

Congressman Vern Buchanan seems to view the economy almost as an after thought. Spending enormous amounts of money on a healthcare program with unknown costs- and maybe we should be working on the economy. Even before the massive spending starts, a little noticed delay in cost of living adjustments for social security recipients slipped through with no fanfare for the next 2 years. While the effect may be minimal on current retirees, the future loss of capital growth for distant years is robbing future generations from compounding benefits of investments. And now we want to entrust billions more to the same type of management. We are approaching a critical point where the unemployed can’t afford insurance and have poor prospects for jobs to acquire coverage. It is politics creating an emergency where many of us can’t oppose as COBRA expires and we are left without jobs or insurance. Health Care reform is an important issue but it should be a state issue not a Federal issue imposed against the will off the people and passed by people who have never read the bill. Personally, after 6 hours or more I can’t make heads or tails of it. T

Continued- There is a truth that has been twisted in the debate. We do have the best health care in the world, it is just not available to everyone. Perhaps our greatest downfall is losing the mental health care of our abused, forgotten, abandoned, generations of youth growing up in broken homes without a sense of community to support them and no hope in the future. No Federal Program can fix this type of problem, it is primarily a problem of the spirit. There are lots of changes I would like to see in our health care system. Our Public Health Care System is vital for our nations protection. Health Care reform is not something to be taken as a rushed matter and build a Titanic Type System. There are gaping holes in our current system that need to be fixed, and fixed at the local levels. The debate that should be occurring are things like addressing the health costs of smoking, alcoholism, and childhood abuse. Behavioral health changes could eliminate most of the billions of dollars of future debt congress seems so eager to take on.

This guy is truly a congressman? “It should also work to grow the economy and create more Jobs” “I want to know what you think congress should be doing” After re-reading this I am blown away. It is probably better you didn’t get significant notice. A member of congress that is proposing incredible debt for a health care program no one has read or understands after bankrupting the country with bailout monopoly money closing in on a year of massive layoffs and unemployment has finally decided congress should work on creating jobs? The only place thriving right now is D.C. because their idea of creating jobs is expanding government. Most High School Kids could tell him what congress needs to be doing-helping remove the obstacle for the job creators in America-small businesses-and if they would have started Jan 1st we would be on our way to recovery right now. *****Look for the next generation like Major Diggs Brown who just announced his candidacy for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
