As of a few minutes ago, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune is reporting that the commissioners have voted on Robert Bartolotta as the next City Manager of Sarasota.  Mr. Bartolotta is quite experienced, having served in various City Manager positions, including Dover, Delaware and, more recently, Jupiter, Florida.

Kudos to the commissioners on a wise choice.

And, as we said previously, we wish Steve Stanton (soon to be known as Susan Stanton) all the best.

As you may have heard, the City Commission of Sarasota is apparently giving serious consideration to Steve Stanton as a candidate for the City Manager position that was vacated earlier this year.

Steve, soon to become Susan Ashley Stanton, is familiar as the recently-terminated City Manager of Largo, Florida, who rose to international fame after it became clear that he intended to become a transgender individual. I’m doing my best to be sensitive to Steve, who I understand has requested to be referred to as male until the operation takes place.

Of more relevance to the question of whether he (soon to be she) should be hired as City Manager of Sarasota is this: how can we expect decent job performance out of this individual amidst the firestorm of controversy? A cursory glance at this person’s recent history reveals that he has become an activist for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) causes, not to mention making appearances in the media related to his gender transition and his employment situation with the City of Largo.

Sarasota has important business to attend to. We need someone who can focus on the job at hand and not have to deal with all of the distractions associated with this situation.

High-Tech Children

May 9th, 2007

Now here’s a young lady who understands marketing. She’s found a medium that will evidently reach her father with her request.

Check it out on Seth Godin’s blog.

Now, my daughter’s only 2. But, since I’ve already caught her playing with a Rubik’s cube, I’m guessing that by the time she’s old enough to want new furniture in her room, I have something like this to look forward to.

The Motorcycle Jones

May 2nd, 2007

It doesn’t have much to do with business (or does it? hmmmm…), but my good friend Bill Sanders is on a meandering motorcycle trip and is reporting about it on his blog. He left from his home in Northern California on Monday and is making some scheduled stops before starting to wander aimlessly.

Every motorcyclist’s dream trip.

Reading about it is both joy and torture. Makes me wish I had a bike.
